MARIANTONIA URRU

All our rugs are handmade by expert weavers who, after completing an apprenticeship of over two years, have acquired the manual skills necessary to ensure exceptional craftsmanship and high production quality.

During their apprenticeship, weavers refine their technique using one or both of the two traditional methods: the Pibiones technique and the Piana technique. Both involve working with coarse wool threads on a base of finely intertwined cotton warp and weft.

The Pibiones technique is achieved using rods around which thick wool wefts are wrapped. This process creates a compact, raised texture resembling small grapes, known as pibiones in the Sardinian dialect. The resulting fabric is heavy, with a thickness ranging from 5 to 10 mm, depending on the size of the weft and rods and is distinguished by its dotted texture.

The Piana technique is characterized by an additional raised texture, in either long or short segments, though usually limited to a few centimeters to maintain fabric strength. Compared to Pibiones, it is lighter and thinner, with a thickness of 3 to 5 mm, depending on the weave used. This technique results in a fabric with a more linear texture.

All our rugs are handmade by expert weavers who have acquired, after a period of apprenticeship of over two years, the manual skills necessary to guarantee a high level of production quality.

Our collection of indoor and outdoor jacquard fabrics is inspired by the principles of the circular economy, designed to create long-lasting products.

Each of our designs is the result of a close collaboration with talented designers who, through an immersive experience in our land, translate tradition into contemporary creations.
